Tour Report
A return to Bristol, a course we had played on a number of occasions. Though it was wet the greens were good and the familiar holes like the 3rd down a steep hill with a dog right bend were as we remembered. The 4th, a par 3 over a lake, was Peter’s nearest the pin, the 12th was Iain’s longest drive and the last was Dave’s nearest the pin in two.
Tuesday The Point at Polzeath was a new course for us and we were due to play the team Texas scramble early that morning, but an overnight rain storm was not conducive to playing . So we waited for our 12am round with a very strong westerly wind to contend with. The nearest the pin on the 6th was won by Ade, the longest drive was won by Iain on the 15th and Jon won the nearest the pin in two on the 13th. The course was interesting but lacked proper furniture. It did have an interesting trial of 6 robot mowers wondering around the course.
Wednesday we went back to Bowood a place previously with “no crocs”. It has an interesting putting green on a number of levels and I think some spent more energy putting than playing on the course. The 6th was nearest the pin won by Jon, the longest drive was won by Peter on the 18th by virtue of the fact that he was the only one that landed on the fairway and Peter also won the nearest the pin in two on the 16th. It was measured by Iain as it was literally a foot (Iain’s) shorter than Clive. Again there was a very strong breeze. Not a part of the world I would move to where apparently, there is a strong breeze most weekends.
When we had finished we decided to rush back to The Point to have a go at the team Texas scramble. The weather and light were with us and we managed to play 9 holes won by John N and Clive. The scores per team were close ranging from 22 to 26.
Thursday, the last day, we moved on. Originally we were to go to Oak Manor Golf Club, Taunton but they had decided last minute to do course maintenance. So Taunton & Pickeridge became our destination. An unusual course where the 10th was closed to cut down trees so we had to play in order the holes up to the 9th hole, then from the 10th tee to the 11th green, then the 12th, then an extra hole called 12a a par 3 over a deep hole was played before carrying on with the rest of the course. The 5th was the nearest the pin won by Ade, the longest drive was won by Clive on the 16th and Iain won the nearest the pin in two on the 18th.
